Stephen Pfleiderer -Biography

In his 40 years in publishing, Stephen Pfleiderer has overseen hundreds of book projects, many of which he has edited and written.  He is a former vice-president of Prentice-Hall publishers, heading up for over 20 years its editorial operations in Washington, D.C.  He has been a consultant in the publishing field, with such clients as Simon and Schuster, The Washington Post Company, and The National Newspaper Association, among others.

He coaches writers, leads workshops on writing, and is involved in a number or writing projects at the present time, including writing the history of the historic Paramount Theater in Charlottesville, to be published to coincide with the restored theater's reopening in 2004.  Mr. Pfleiderer teaches legacy writing at the Jefferson Institute of Lifelong Learning at the University of Virginia.  In addition, he also does consulting with individuals on retirement options and how to adapt to a successful retirement lifestyle. 

Mr. Pfleiderer is the author of Your Personal Guide to Legacy Writing and co-author with Tom Cunningham of Movin' On--Your Options in Retirement Living.  He also authored numerous articles on business, government, and legal subjects in various publications during his career at Prentice-Hall.  During his Washington years he was active in a number of national publishing organizations and served on the board and chair of its public affairs council of the Information Industry Association.

Stephen Pfleiderer has made his home in Charlottesville since 1990.  He is a native of Indianapolis and attended Butler and New York Universities.  Mr. Pfleiderer is an active Presbyterian layman and has also served on various cultural, civic, and social agency committees and boards both in Washington and Charlottesville.
